This
huge book sale will feature even more books than last year – a
completely fresh selection as last year’s books are gone. 90% of the books this year are donated by the public. The inventory from an out of business book store will also be featured. There are so many nearly new books both in fiction and non-fiction. There are also many lovely coffee table books and art books. Shoppers will find several
rare collectible books. Biographies are overflowing and many large print books available along with a section of westerns. Once again the cookbooks are fantastic - many nearly new ones. Children's books, religion, history, how-to's, self-help, pets and nature, sports, travel, business, media, photography, art, health/medicine, gender studies, foreign language, government/politics, gardening and crafts - along with some antiques, pictures, lots of odd and ends. There are also
CD's, DVDs, audio books galore, puzzles, records, video tapes, encyclopedias and so much more. Volunteers will be available to help load books into cars. We ask people to bring their own boxes or bags.
Donations are still welcome at any library branch. All books donated must be clean, intact, no mold, bugs, water damage, etc. We cannot accept computer books, incomplete sets of encyclopedias, no magazines, reader's digest condensed, nor textbooks. A great team of volunteers are sorting the donations during the weeks leading up to the sale. We do pick up if you are unable to bring them for certain reasons.
Last year was a record sale. One important goal of the event is to get the books into the hands of as many people as possible and give these gently used books new homes. This is a community event, one that brings together residents and business people; individuals who live or work in Haywood county and in the surrounding areas. They all come to the sale because they share a common love of books. It gives volunteers pleasure each year to see the numbers of people who come to the Library to purchase books and other items in the sale. The money raised helps support the library for programs for the public, children's reading programs - like the summer reading, training for library staff, and other needs that are not met by the county or grants.
A huge thanks to the volunteer committee who have been working all year to enable this event to come to fruition: Dot Barnum, Bud Ebert, Sandy Denman, Lynn Ebsen, Gail Leatherwood, Ann Melton, John Myers, Lee Myers, Edie Sloan, Peggy and Stan Smith, Laura Soltis, Bill Tennett, and Debbie Wilson.
**We need volunteers - if anyone is interested, please call Sandy Denman at 627-2370 or the library at 452-5169.
If anyone is interested in buying the remainder of the books, they may contact Sandy before or anytime during the sale.
